The Unknown

  The Unknown

What is your biggest fear? Really think about it what is your absolute biggest fear? Mine? The unknown. I tell that to people and they look at me with straight confusion. What is so scary about the unknown you may be wondering? Well, let's talk. When you start that new job, you are unsure about how it is going to be. Will you like it? What will your coworkers be like? You have to sit and wonder about all of those things and that is why it is so scary. You are constantly trying to predict and figure out what is going to happen next. In situations you are unsure of the outcome it is hard to not be nervous. Not having control or comfortability in a situation is absolutely nerve-racking. It literally keeps you up at night, well at least for me. If you are a consistent reader, you read my last post, "Anxiety my dear friend..". Anxiety ties into this I think.

My unknown

So many times I have not followed through with a job, sports, hanging out with friends because of the unknown, and not having control of a situation is so stomach-turning for me that I can not absolutely stand it. I have caught myself in the same place for months because I was too scared to do something new.  Comfortability is a scary thing. You catch yourself constantly doing the same thing that even thinking about changing that situation in the slightest is out of the question.  I remember in 11th grade I played soccer and I loved it. The following year came up and I was so scared to sign up again. Why? I already did it, why would that be scary? I do it currently with my job. I have worked there for a while but still, worry about how tonight's shift will go. I have struggled with it but I am doing pretty well with heading straight into the unknown

How to face your unknown

Being scared to face new things is completely normal. However, if you never go through with it you will find yourself stuck being in comfortability. Once you take that first big step out of your comfort zone it is hard to not have to keep taking uncomfortable situations. Something you can remember is that scary things equal growth. Another thing is once you decide to face this scary thing try to minimize thoughts about it and just face it head-on. Learning that doing new and different things is an important thing to learn! You can't grow without facing things that are uncomfortable/scary.
