Letting Go of the Negative and Why it is Important
If you are human then you have dealt with negative people, negative thoughts, or negative situations. For the past few weeks, I have been in a negative mindset and I thought it would be appropriate to talk about it. Negative things will come out of nowhere and it's mostly out of control, however how you handle these things is what is important. This is something I still struggle with every day. I have never been good at dealing with the negative, I always either run from it or act like it never happened. Then months will pass and these bad feelings I never got to feel will come back up. It makes sense because if you don't deal with things and your emotions it will follow you around. Trying to be strong and careless only goes for so long. You will never heal if you do not face these negative things. No matter who you are we all face bad things. No one can say they have 0 negativity in their life. It's bound to be around.
So how do I deal with it? Old me would retaliate against anything that is negative and would hate the world. Now, I'm like a dog with my tail in-between my legs. I let negative people, thoughts, situations consume every aspect of my life because it's easy for me to do 'nothing'. If you have read my post about anxiety, then you know that anxiety definitely is not your friend when bad stuff arises in your life. It's easy to act unbothered, unhurt, and to stuff it into the back of my head like it never happened. But unfortunately, that does not get you anywhere. Although I struggle with this, the things I have below are some things I want to implement into my life to try to help myself let go of the negative.
1. Living in the present is something I struggle to do. Although, sometimes I do find myself in a situation and deciding to take a step back and really take in what is happening. More times than I'd like to admit I sit and think about something that happened years ago or something that even happened yesterday. My goal is to every day take a few minutes and focus on TODAY and the things I have to be thankful for today. The past is irrelevant and focusing on it will get you nowhere, trust me it doesn't get me anywhere.
2. Allowing to feel is also something I struggle with. So often I feel as we try to handle a situation head-on and not allow ourselves to take in the feelings this situation has caused us. Not being able to be upset about a situation, doesn't allow us to get over it. You have to be mad, sad, whatever, then start to get over it.
3. Positive people are probably key to being able to live a less negative life. If you surround yourself with negative people constantly, then it's likely that you will be negative too! Negative people can be family, friends, co-workers, etc. Don't be afraid to cut ties with people that make you feel less whole or are constantly negative. It's not always easy to do this but it is worth it in the end. This is one thing that as I got older I found myself trying less to mend relationships with negative people. I am happy I learned to do this.
4. Out of control can be an annoying thing. Not being able to control every situation in your life sucks. However, you just have to realize that some things are just beyond you. The negative people, situations, and thoughts sometimes just are way above our control. But I think learning to be adaptable to bad things and learning how to deal with them is far more important than being in control.
