A routine? Why?
Routine
I have talked before about something that is key in my life is having a routine. In my post, 'Anxiety my dear friend' I talked a little about how a routine helps me with my mental struggles. Having a routine creates healthy habits and helps eliminate some of the negative habits we have. I have found with all of the recent change in my life having a routine helped me eliminate the stress of the change I was going through. Routine also helps maintain happiness and can be very fulfilling! For me, having a routine helps me take control of my day-to-day life. Here are some of the main things I have turned into a routine:
- Getting enough sleep: I have probably heard a million times how important getting enough sleep is and a few years ago I honestly could care less. However, when I got to college I realized how important my sleep is. I always have an overload of homework and work a part time job, if I don't get good sleep I am literally so drained. You may be like me and think it is fine if you stay out all night and try to be productive the next day, however, you may be able to make it to class or work but how productive really are you gonna be? Statistically, 7+ hours of sleep is the recommended amount of sleep needed for ages 18-60. Make a set time every night to go to sleep and a set time every morning to wake up.
- Eating well: My diet consist of cheeseballs and frozen food, like no joke those are my top two picks. Over the last few months I have went through this thing of eating terribly or not enough. I have lost a significant amount of weight. I never realized I did until I was looking at old pictures. After seeing this it created a bad imagine of my body in my head. Of course I still love my cheese balls and frozen pizza however, I have been trying to eat a lot more. After a long day no one feels like making a meal, I have found when I take the time to make something that doesn't come out of a box, it's very rewarding. Eating throughout the day and not just sticking to my coffee helps me be more productive and makes me feel a lot better physically. Next time you pull out those chips, try to look up a fun recipe to make!
- Skin care: I am sure you guys are so over me talking about skin care and how much I love it. How could having a skin care routine help me this much? Well, I have mentioned before about how I struggle with being consistent. This created a whole routine for me. I have been exposed to a whole new world of being consistent. This is something I am very passionate about! However, you do not need to use skin care to help do this, you can find anything that brings enjoyment to you to learn to enjoy and take care of. Find that thing you enjoy doing that can become something you do daily! Let it become a passion!
- Vitamins: Being someone that literally could have cared less about their physical health to being someone that practices healthy living it's been a pretty cool experience for me. I would have never thought in a million years that taking vitamins would be apart of my routine. I have found that taking vitamins consistently helps me personally with mentally clarity, energy, and digestion health. Next time you are at your local store do some research and find some vitamins that may be beneficial in your day-to-day!
- Getting in touch with your creativity: I have always had a hard time finding things that I was good at or was passionate about doing. This blog for example has been one of the first things I have looked forward to doing, it allows me to be creative and have a place for me to express my feelings and help others. I have always enjoyed writing whether it was on my notes in my phone or if it was just a piece of paper. Another thing I enjoy doing and really love the outcome is painting. I am never ever patient enough to finish something I start. However, when I go to our local ceramic barn I literally will force myself to finish whatever I start to paint, the outcome of the project is a good feeling to me and it influences me to wanna do it more. Finding creative outlets for myself is sometimes hard but I have finally found a few things that work for me.
Disclaimer: Everyone is different and I do not expect everyone to relate. These are just my personal experiences and some things that help me. I have linked a national hotline below that is free and confidential for individuals or families that are struggling with mental disorders.
